2024 State of West Virginia Risk Assessment
Please find below the key details regarding the 2024 West Virginia Jurisdictional Risk Assessment (JRA), which is conducted every five years to fulfill the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) cooperative agreement requirements.
The resulting 2024 West Virginia JRA State Report highlights a diverse range of natural, technological, and human-caused hazards, and offers recommendations tailored to the state’s unique demography and geography.
The assessment engaged stakeholders across all West Virginia preparedness regions to evaluate how specific hazards apply to local health systems—accounting for community risks, impact, probability, and mitigation. It examines the potential impact of top hazards on health services, infrastructure, and public health, while identifying required resources, county preparedness indicators, and partnership strengths and areas for improvement.
